31 August 2025

Saudi Arabia, represented by Eng. Mansour AlQurashi, Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Partnerships, has chaired the Arab States preparatory meeting of the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26). The meeting aimed to unify efforts, harmonize perspective, and discuss mutual decisions and directions. This marks the launch of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR25) preparations, which is held in Riyadh.

In his opening remarks, Eng. Mansour AlQurashi highlighted the importance of the PP-26 and its crucial role in approving international strategies, objectives, projects, and programs within the ICT sector. He also emphasized the sector’s responsibility to develop innovative solutions that contribute to a more inclusive, sustainable, and secure digital future, expand access to advanced technologies, while ensuring that the digital revolution can benefit all, by fostering sustainability and innovation. Moreover, AlQurashi expressed his appreciation to the participating delegations for their commitment to achieving the meeting’s goals.

During the meeting, discussions focused on finalizing decisions related to the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26), including supporting the Kingdom’s and other Arab countries’ candidacy to retain seats at the ITU Council, membership in the Radio Regulations Board, and other nominations aimed at holding leadership positions within the ITU.

The Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26) represents the highest governing authority of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) – the UN specialized agency for ICT – and is held every four years. Throughout the conference, member states determine the ITU’s future role, set its strategic directions, and define its capacity to shape the global development and governance of ICT.

It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia’s leadership of the Arab States team reflects its global position, active engagement in international decision-making, and strategic partnership with the ITU in advancing its objectives and the SDGs. It also highlights the Kingdom’s role as a key driver of innovation in communications, Space, and technology worldwide.
